Make My Day

jap

Make My Day, a collaboration with Bryan Connor, was intended to touch someone's heart with design. We created an interactive game that instructed the user to discretely clothes pin a compliment on someone special. We implemented them in several mailboxes at MICA. These secret messages would hopefully touch someone's heart and created a chain reaction of random acts of kindness.

The Haiti Poster Project

haiti

Poster I submitted to The Haiti Poster Project. I depicted tools coming together to rebuild the spirt and community of Haiti. The posters are hand screen printed so every poster has its own set of beautiful markings. A big thanks to Vann Roy for helping me screen print these lovely posters!

Posters go on sale April 5th! All proceeds go to Doctors without Borders.

Japanese Cloisonné Enamels

jap

Concept media kit for The Walters Museum's latest exhibition, Japanese Cloisonné Enamels. These beautiful vases were created during the peak of Japan's modernity and a time of innovation. I wanted to challenge people's views of what is considered to be traditional, and used modern typefaces to compliment how fresh the cloisonné vases were at the time of their creation. Included in the folder, is a fold out book poster, post card, and small press release that reflects how small the vases are at life size.

Bolton Hill's UPS Man

UPS

I interviewed Ryan, my neighborhood's UPS Man, and my goal was to tell his story through design. I created a book that related back to my quick interactions with him and referenced vintage distressed mail.

Time + Motion

time

A concept poster for a Time + Motion Conference hosted at MICA. I used action script to generate random patterns and then exported the vector to create the printed piece.

Grid Systems

grids

This was my response for a book design after reading a text by Josef Muller-Brockmann. This is a compalation of book reviews for designers, by designers.

Hire Me!

business card

This weekend, I had the pleasure of learning letterpress from the very talented Kailie Parrish. After five hours of preparing the plate, custom mixing color, and cutting down paper, I created these beauties!

A Dream of Sleep Teaser

dream

I had the chance to work with local Dallas author, Afi Rawlings, to illustrate images for her first book, "A Dream of Sleep." The five characters in the book include Afi herself, along with Mike, Mahlet, Christian, and yours truly. It was fun but challenging to immortalize myself in book form. This book will be published soon, but in the mean time, I'll leave you with some sketches.

Boxed Water

boxed water

Recent research shows that boxed water is a more sustainable alternative to bottled water. This is my take on how the packaging would look like. The fun graphics would make kids want to drink more water, instead of sugary sodas.

Blackbird

blackbird

The objective of this project is to see typography as visual elements that require hierarchical organization. The blackbird text is arranged 24 different ways to show variation through strict limitation of a grid system, point size, color and weight. These exercises are packaged in translucent vellum with a vinyl band for contrast.

Bolton Hill

bolton hill

This book incorporates important aspects of photography explored in my Photoimaging class. I used eight themes to represent the idea of public vs. private in my neighborhood of Bolton Hill. Territory and space have always created division between people, and the photographs reveal how transparent these boundaries can be.

Lavar Green: Shades of Green

lavar

Lavar Green is a dear friend of mine who is a local Baltimore musician. Not only is he a member of Saleem and the Music Lovers, but also an MC and does other side projects. I wanted to do CD packaging that represents his whole body of work into one collection. Shades of Green showcases multiple dimensions of Lavar's personality and musical pursuits. He, along with his band mates have opened up for major acts such as Wu Tang Clan, Common, The Roots, De La Soul, Talib Kweli, and Little Brother.

The Secret Language of Sleep

sleep

Two versions of a book cover redesign for Evany Thomas's "The Secret Language of Sleep: A Couple's Guide" The book is about how the positions we sleep in can reveal the health of our relationships. The impressions on our sheets are faint indicators about the movements we make while we're sleeping and can give us great insight on our unconscious activity.

Happy Birthday Texas

texas

This is a poster concept for the 173rd Annual Texas Independence Day celebration. Through research I discovered that Texas produces more carbon emission than most countries. Since Independence Day symbolizes the birth of state into the Union, this event would be a campaign to prolong the life of Texas through more sustainable activities.

Puree: A Blend of Food and Music

puree

Food and music have a lot of similarities. The artist has to find a perfect balance of instruments or ingredients to create a masterpiece. Puree is a CD for anyone who loves listening to music while cooking. The bands listed have fun food names and are eclectic in their musical styles.

Central Baltimore Partnership

CBP

I had a chance to work with Joseph McNeely, Executive Director at Central Baltimore Partnership, to brainstorm different strategies for developing their identity. I designed two logos that would appeal to both the neighborhoods affected as well as the stakeholders. The building blocks represent the solid foundation in which CBP is built on, while the bright colors represent the spirit of the community. I was one of three candidates chosen, and although my designs did not get selected for the final, I had a great experience working with CBP.
